A Funny Rant about my Daughter and Tupac

Ok so like… My daughter just turned 6. Her birthday was Monday, June 16th. So here’s a story leading up to a funny realization…

This is NO joke… When I went into labor with Mozelle I was living in Walnut Creek, Ca. I chose for my delivery to be in Oakland at Summit (Formerly known as Merritt hehe) hospital because that’s where I was born.
Anyhow… On the way to the hospital, my mom decided to turn on the radio… I’m breathing and trying not to jump out of the car while she’s speeding through 580. I hear Tupac on the radio and I say to her, “No one wants to hear about thug passion while they’re about to pop out a baby!” And I turned the radio down. 10 hours of labor and 12 minutes of pushing (almost a record holder) later, my little baby (who I thought for a while was switched at birth because she looked Hispanic and I called her Duckie because when she sucked on her fist, it sounded like a little duck quacking) was born. Who woulda thought I could create something so adorable!!
Moving forward to 2003. It’s her first birthday. I’m on my way to my mom’s house to throw her a mini party (her first CAKE to dig into! YAY!!) I turn on the radio… and uh…. I hear Hail Mary by Tupac on the radio… I look at Duckie… She just smiles… I giggle and I say to her “U don’t need to be hailing Mary this young” and I turned the station… guess what… I Ain’t Mad Atcha is on… Hmmm.. I pay it no mind and make it to my mom’s. We’re partying and what not and she falls asleep. (She was a knockout artist until about 2 years old). So you know after the baby party, we gotta have a grown up party.. We turn on the radio.. “All About You” comes on.. I’m like WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!!! TUPAC DIED IN SEPTEMBER!! SO WHY ARE THEY PLAYING TUPAC HITS TODAY?!! The way everyone celebrates Tupac, I’m thinking ok maybe someone declared it National Pac Day er.. something..
SO anyway… I learned that Pook (Formerly known as Duckie) shares her birthday with Tupac. And being that he’s still celebrated every year on the radio AND MTV and VH1 because he was so legendary… My daughter will never escape listening to him at least once or twice on her birthday.
Every single year, possibly for the rest of her life, she will hear his voice and his songs. She will wanna know one day what tossin’ it up is, and how do you toss it up…. She will wonder if heaven really DOES have a ghetto… She’ll tell me that even as a crack fiend (even though I never was and never WILL be a crack fiend); I always was a black queen. One day when she’s grounded, she’ll realize that what she did deserved a punishment and she’ll tell me that she ain’t mad at me. Knowing her, she’ll receive constructive criticism and won’t like it, and she’ll start to think it’s her against the world… and one day when I tell her that her socks don’t match her clothes, she’ll snap at me and say only God can judge her. Maybe when she hears “Brenda’s got a Baby” along with my advice she’ll think twice about losing her virginity to some horny pimple faced teenage wanna be a thug loser who’s not good enough for her.
Which is all fine. She’ll be one of the few kids in her generation who will know who he is. All her peers will probably say “Who’s that?” because they’ll be into some new age alien language type techno happy hardcore super bass music and she’ll be able to share her knowledge of a rap legend. Maybe she’ll inspire them to buy his music on some music chip they’ll have, (because cd’s are going to be Red Ray mini chips they can just install in their ear or something). I dunno. Just seeing how far my thoughts can go on it. LOL
Right now she really doesn’t know who he is.. But one day she’ll know. I’ll explain it, or maybe even the radio will because they always monotonously read his biography while “Life Goes On” plays in the background. Who knows? Shoot, they may keep releasing hidden tracks and other stuff that somehow mysteriously come out the wood works even though he’s been dead for over a decade now.
And please my people… he’s dead, kay?? Let’s let his spirit and music live on. Let’s not embarrass ourselves like these Elvis fans have done for longer that I’ve been alive. Yea I said it.
Yep
